European Artspaces

Art is rapidly changing so it’s no surprise that the international platforms were art meets an audience are changing as well. Somewhere next to institutional museums, long-lasting artist-run-spaces and commercial galleries there is a new type of art spaces emerging all over Europe.
Let’s call them New European Artspaces (NEA).

Those NEA have a loads of differences but certainly have a lot of similarities: they are exploring the boundaries of art, they are experimenting with exhibition-models, they are focused on the audience rather then on artist practice, they are open to co productions and alternative ways
of distributing art.

We are convinced that we all (artists, NEA, audiences) could benifit from possible cooperations between these NEA. So we took the first step, which is mapping out the NEA, make them
visible. Who are they, where are they based, what grounds are they exploring?

This is not a complete coverage or a limited selection. This collection of NEA is the result of an open invitation for any artspace resembling with/that fit the critera to take part, and
to recommend others.

The information in this booklet is not ours, it’s free. Use it. We took the first initiative to start this project and we certainly hope that others will continue it. Some of the NEA have suggested to set up some kind of meeting. Not a symposium, not a conference but a meeting. Our answer is: do it, set it up.
